IRA Beyond Essentials is a more advanced workshop that builds on attendee's basic IRA knowledge to help them address some of the more complex IRA issues. Attendees participate in real-world credit union activities which allow them to immediately apply their learning to the real world. Topics Include:

  • IRA Transactions
  • Required Minimum Distributions
  • Processing an IRA Death Claim

TOPICS & OBJECTIVES
IRA Benefits
  • Recognize Traditional and Roth IRA tax advantages
IRA Tax Reporting and Withholding
  • List the forms required to complete manual tax reporting corrections
  • Describe withholding requirements
  • Analyze tax withholding reporting requirements
IRA Transactions
  • Identify types of contributions, including rollover and conversion contributions
  • How to handle a violation of the 60-day or the one-per-12-month rule
  • Discuss distributions and how assets are removed
  • Define an excess contribution, a recharacterization, and a reconversion
Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)
  • Review the required beginning date (RBD)
  • Distinguish between the Uniform Lifetime and the Joint Life Expectancy tables and how to calculate an RMD
  • Define the RMD restriction, as well as the effect of rolling over or converting an RMD
Processing an IRA Death Claim
  • Examine the death claim process
  • Discuss the requirements for an Incoming Beneficiary Account Transfer

INSTRUCTORS
Fred Volkman, CIP
Fred is a training consultant for Ascensus, Inc., a division of Crump Group, Inc. He is responsible for developing and delivering IRA training programs on a national level to meet the needs of credit unions and leagues. Fred is also the project manager for compliance and operational eLearning. As such, he is responsible for overseeing new and existing webinars for credit union staff, including the development, design, implementation, assessment and maintenance of all courses. He is also the project manager for the IRAdirect® training environment.

CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations received in writing (via fax 608-231-4327) before the end of business on October 22, 2013 are eligible for a refund of the amount paid minus a $50 administrative fee. No refunds will be granted for cancellation requests received after October 22, 2013. Substitutions are accepted anytime prior to the start of the program at no additional cost. Simply fax event and contact information, listing the new participant and who they will be replacing. Cancellation fees do not apply for free or complimentary programs.
